Rob Henson
Director, Design & Engineering
As the Director of Design & Engineering, Rob takes a great deal of pride in his design skills and ability to find creative solutions to the technical challenges presented by customers. Rob has the aptitude to lead projects both technically and administratively, allowing him to routinely play the role of technical lead, technical advisor, or project manager depending on the program. In his seven years at Gilero, Rob has worked on a variety of drug reconstitution & delivery devices, minimally invasive surgical tools, and disposable medical devices throughout various stages of development. In his role as Director of Design & Engineering, Rob plays a critical part in ensuring his team has the appropriate resources and technologies to be successful in their work. Rob stands at the front of our hiring efforts, and is actively trying to grow our strong team of engineers at Gilero. Rob has both expertise and experience in traditional and robotic laparoscopy, injectable/ implantable drug delivery systems of many types (ophthalmic, subcutaneous, intravenous, deep tissue, etc.), closed system drug handling and reconstitution devices, complex fluid circuit design, multi- dose inhalers, and design for plastic injection molding. In 2019, Rob relocated from North Carolina to California to oversee the opening of Gilero’s West Coast Design Center in Carlsbad, CA. He has taken on the added responsibility of managing the Carlsbad location, which included building out a team of talented design and product development engineers, in addition to designing & developing devices for Gilero customers. Rob is passionate about medtech innovation, realized through almost a decade of working in the medical device industry, including 3 ½ years spent at TransEnterix working on robotic laparoscopy. He is listed as an inventor on two issued patents and several other published patent applications. He graduated from North Carolina State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Italian studies.
